Agri-Kind has received the green light from the Pennsylvania Department of Health to set up cannabis cultivation in Chester, writes Sam Wood for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Agri-Kind is one of the 13 new cultivators that were issued permits by the Department of Health last week. This brings the total number of companies in the state that are licensed to grow and process medical marijuana to 25.

Agri-Kind is an offshoot of Agronomed Pharmaceuticals in Exton. For the project, the company will build a 48,000-square-foot facility in a former residential neighborhood in Chester.

According to Agronomed CEO Jon Cohn, the company is already working with the Stash House of Colorado, as well as with David Tuttleman, the operator of marijuana growing business Matrix NV. Agronomed is also already cultivating 66 acres of hemp in West Grove for CBD production.

Agri-Kind is one of only two new growers that have obtained approval for the southeast section of the state, with DocHouse also receiving approval to operate in Pottsville. However, Philadelphia itself was once again shut out, with four out of the five applicants being flatly rejected for submitting “incomplete” applications.
