The SelectUSA Investment Summit took place from June 20-22 in greater Washington, DC.  More than 3,000 participants gathered to focus on the crucial connections between US economic developers and international business investors, including a delegation from Chester County.

Mike Grigalonis, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Chester County Economic Development Council and Komeil Nasrollahi, Program Manager of the Chester County China Initiative had a specific focus of attracting Chinese investment to our county.

Organized by the US Department of Commerce, the summit is the highest-profile event dedicated to promoting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States.

The event brings together companies from all over the world, economic development organizations from every corner of the nation, and other parties working to facilitate business investment in the United States.  Attendees represented 66 international markets, all 50 US States and several territories.

During the event, US Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross was joined by governors from 10 states, five Cabinet secretaries, and executives from Mercedes-Benz US International, Siemens USA, and Toyota Motor North America.

Four international companies, JSW Steel, NewCold, Re:Cognition Health, and Weastec, announced expansions in the United States with their combined projects totaling more than $600 million and creating approximately 650 new jobs.

This year’s SelectUSA Investment Summit included more than 2,700 individual matchmaking meetings among the companies and economic development organizations in attendance.

During the three-day event, the Chester County team met and discussed investment opportunities in our area with more than 80 international attendees. As a result, the Chester County China Initiative is planning a tour of Chester County for potential investors in early 2019.
