Gary DiVincenzo, a retired helicopter pilot for a local pharmaceutical company, is thriving in his new career selling electric bikes, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Local News.

Ten years ago, DiVincenzo opened Hybrid Cycles on East Gay Street in West Chester, and the popularity of e-bikes has seemingly increased ever since.

“I started out as a predominantly electric bike dealer selling e-bikes and maintaining all types of regular bicycles,” he said. “Now, they are pretty sophisticated as compared to 10 years ago. As bikes went to lithium batteries, they became lighter and smaller. With the better batteries and motors, the range and the power has increased.“

His target customer ranges in age between 55 and 75 and is often someone who, for some reason, can’t ride a regular bike. E-bikes range in price from $1,900 to $6,000.

“One spouse is an avid rider and the other gets an e-bike to keep up,” said DiVincenzo. “We see a lot of that.”
