State Rep. Harry Lewis

The Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry will present State Rep. Harry Lewis, who will retire at the end of this session, with its 2018 Citizen of the Year Award at its annual dinner on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Longwood Gardens.

Lewis was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2014, and since then he has upheld the priorities and values of the residents in the 74th District, which includes the townships of Caln, East Caln, East Fallowfield, Sadsbury, and Valley; the boroughs of Downingtown, Modena, Parkesburg, and South Coatesville; and the city of Coatesville.

Prior to his election to the House, Lewis distinguished himself as an outstanding educator for more than 40 years. During his career, he served the Coatesville Area Senior High School as principal, assistant principal, special education teacher, and physical education teacher.

A graduate of Coatesville High School and Winston-Salem State University, Lewis also earned master’s degrees from West Chester University and Cheyney University.

In 1960, as an undergrad at Winston-Salem State, Lewis met Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose wisdom has never been far from Lewis’s mind.

“I still carry the advice Dr. King gave us with me today,” Lewis told VISTA Today. “All I want to do is help people and be a leader. Being a State Rep. enhances my ability to help.”

The CCCBI will also honor Denis O’Brien of the Exelon Corporation with its 2018 Executive of the Year Award.

The CCCBI’s annual dinner is its most prestigious event of the year. This tradition celebrates the CCCBI’s accomplishments over the past year, as well as looks ahead to the future.
