Tori Moore, the wife of Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, opened up about dealing with the rare but debilitating disorder known as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS, at the annual meeting of Dysautonomia International, writes Rita Giordano for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

During the event, Moore explained that for her and many other POTS sufferers, a big part of the struggle was getting an accurate diagnosis.

“They told me I had a virus,” she said.

An estimated three million Americans are affected by POTS, with the majority of them being women. It’s also believed that, with so few doctors educated on the symptoms of the disorder, the number of people who may suffer from it may be larger than originally thought.

Moore demonstrated how this plays out in reality by relaying an encounter she had with one cardiologist when she was seeking a diagnosis.

“I will never forget when he looked at me in his office and said, ‘You are young and healthy. You are in perfect condition. Have you looked into depression or anxiety?’” she said.
