Two important announcements were cause for celebration at this year’s Annual Meeting of United Way of Southern Chester County, according to a report in the Daily Local News.

During the event held on May 16, United Way said it has successfully matched the $100,000 anonymous grant offered to the organization, if it could grow its Leadership Donor category of people that make an annual gift of at least $1,000.

Board President John Moriarty said that United Way was able to gain 47 new leadership donors, with existing leadership donors pledging an additional $43,000. This allowed United Way to receive the full match.

The 2017-18 campaign has so far gathered a total of $1.175 million dollars in donations, with more than 400 new donors added across all categories.

Out of that total, $840,000 will be distributed to 26 local programs at 18 nonprofit agencies through allocation grants. An additional $40,000 will be put into the Unmet Needs Fund aimed at creating new programs to address unmet needs in the community.

United Way also announced it has welcomed five new board members and voted in new officers.
