Great Valley Grad Discusses New HBO Drama He’s Producing

By

Adam McKay

Best known for his popular Will Ferrell comedies, Great Valley High School graduate Adam McKay is busy working on Succession, a new HBO drama, writes Ellen Gray for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The show stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong as a father-son duo who go head-to-head for control of a huge media conglomerate. Despite parts of the inaugural episode resembling McKay’s unproduced screenplay about Rupert Murdoch and his family, McKay emphasized the family in his new show is fictional.

Cox plays a three-times-married father of four adult children who leads a media empire called Waystar Royco. On his 80th birthday, he delays plans to turn the company over to one of his sons, thus triggering a family fight.

“It’s about the question of what happens when this kind of power is handed down through bloodlines,” said McKay.
