Gawthrop Greenwood

The law firm had a surprise visitor to its Alex’s Lemonade Stand last Friday in West Chester. Jeff Zajac from the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce stopped by on an adult tricycle to gear up for the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic on Aug. 11 and the event’s annual Trike Challenge.

Gawthrop Greenwood will be among the businesses hosting visitors during the Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic. Its West Chester office overlooks the finish line.

Every year, Gawthrop Greenwood opens an Alex’s Lemonade Stand to raise money to help fight childhood cancer for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The Chester County Bar Foundation helps support the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation with similar lemonade stands at locations throughout Chester County.

The Mill at Anselma

The Chester County Commissioners recently presented a check for $1,000 to representatives from The Mill at Anselma in Chester Springs. The funds are part of the county’s annual appropriations to organizations and nonprofits, and will be used for the purchase of materials for educational demonstrations as the county leads awareness of events at the Mill.

The Mill at Anselma, which has been operating since 1747, is one of Chester County’s National Historic Landmarks and is the most-complete, known example of a custom grain mill in the U.S. A working example of more than 250 years of Chester County’s industrial heritage, the Mill has retained its original colonial-era power train, as well as multiple layers of industrial equipment ranging from the 1700s to the mid-1900s.

Mill demonstrations take place on the second Saturday of each month, from 10 AM-4 PM through to December.

Longwood Gardens

The architectural design team behind the revitalization of the Main Fountain Garden was the recipient of a 2018 Preservation Achievement Grand Jury Award.

Beyer Blinder Belle, an architectural firm specializing in historic preservation, joined Longwood to receive the honor from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia. The Alliance recognizes historic building projects that have been restored or renovated in an exemplary way. The five-year, $90 million restoration was the largest fountain preservation project of its kind in the U.S.

The 80-year-old Main Fountain Garden is a hallmark of the Longwood experience visited by more than 1.5 million people each year.
