“It’s an awesome job with easy hours, you always get your weekends off, you’re outside all day, you get to swim, and you’re constantly active,” said a YMCA camp counselor. “There truly is no other job that could be more ideal than this.”

These fun, rewarding jobs are readily available and waiting to be filled.

The Upper Main Line YMCA, located at 1416 Berwyn-Paoli Road in Berwyn, is hosting a job fair for prospective summer-camp counselors on Wednesday, May 16 from 10 AM-3:30 PM in its Welcome Center Lobby. All are welcome.

The Lionville Community YMCA, located at 100 Devon Drive in Exton, is hosting a Camp Counselor job fair on Tuesday, May 15 from 10 AM-3:30 PM. All are welcome.

The pay is great, and a membership is free. For years, YMCA counselors have built their resumes in the summer by gaining highly-sought-after skills and making a difference in the lives of others.

Summer-camp counselors become better critical thinkers and leaders, as they learn about responsibility, productivity, accountability, and conflict resolution. By mentoring young children, counselors develop a sense of giving back.

Take it from some YMCA camp counselors who shared their thoughts:

• “I was able to help children have a great summer, while also having a fun time myself. It is amazing to have a job where I can spend time outside doing fun activities. Every day, I was excited to come into work and spend time with the campers; the relationships I made are a huge part of the reason why I am excited to come back to camp this summer.”
• “As a camp counselor, you get the chance to learn some invaluable skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and patience, while developing your work ethic. These skills are necessary for any other job out there. You also get the chance to meet some awesome people who will be working alongside you.”
• “My favorite part of being a counselor is knowing I’m having an impact in the kids’ lives. Going to camp is something they’ll remember forever, and I’m glad I get to be a part of their good memories while making memories of my own.”
• “You have the chance to give these kids the best summer of their lives. The most rewarding thing about being a counselor is, at the end of the day, watching your campers explain their day to their parents with the biggest smile on their face and knowing you helped them have this really awesome day.”

In order to become a summer-camp counselor at the YMCA, you have to be at least 18 years old, preferably have experience working with groups of children, and must be able to lead groups of campers with enthusiasm, patience, and respect.
