The New York Giants used their fourth-round pick in last weekend’s NFL draft to select quarterback Kyle Lauletta, a Downingtown East graduate and University of Richmond product, writes Paul Schwartz for The New York Post.

Lauletta, 22, grew up in Exton in an athletic family. His father, Joe, and an uncle played football at Navy. Another uncle played lacrosse at Bucknell. His grandfather played football and basketball at Delaware.

Greg Gattuso, head coach at the University at Albany, remembers Lauletta well. In the past two years, Richmond and Albany played twice, and the games included five overtimes.

In 2016, Richmond won 36-30 in three overtimes. The next year, Richmond won 41-38 in two overtimes. In both outings, Lauletta was too much for Albany.

“Almost identical situations, with a middle linebacker one-on-one on a pass rush, and Lauletta was able to sidestep him,’’ Gattuso said.

“Two of our best players missed him on sacks, and he came out of the pressure and completed the ball and converted. Then they go down and score and tie the game.”
