Media native Kane Kalas, a professional poker player and the son of legendary Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, won big at the Triton Super High Roller Series in Montenegro, writes Pauly McGuire for ClubPoker.net.

Kalas threw down with another American, Jason Koon, in a pot worth more than $2 million. Kalas, whose career earnings were already $1.2 million, got the upper hand and walked away with the prize.

The 25-year-old grew up in Media, watching his father call games for the Phillies and listening to his narration for Inside the NFL.

In middle school, Kalas discovered he had inherited his father’s baritone voice so he switched to opera in high school. He then went to the University of Miami for its programs in broadcasting and music.

But Kalas discovered a new passion during his freshman year in college.

“A friend of mine had actually dropped out of high school to play poker,” said Kalas. “I was very curious about the whole thing and asked him to teach me how to play.”

Since then, Kalas has focused his energy on poker, and his dedication is certainly paying off.
