Longleaf pine straw, a popular southern landscaping product used as an alternative to hardwood mulch, is finally available locally, thanks to Downingtown’s Mid-Atlantic Pine Straw Mulch, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.

Owned by Katharine and Bill Strock, the company sells, delivers, and installs the mulch for their regional customers in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.

“Many people from the northeast travel to the southeastern U.S. for vacation and admire the look of pine straw mulch, but when they get home, they don’t know where to purchase it,” said Katharine.

She said that the interlocking longleaf pine straw mulch helps inhibit weeds and does not wash or blow away like traditional hardwood mulch. She added that it is also good for vegetable gardens and flower beds on both residential and business properties.

The Strocks’ longleaf pine straw mulch comes from vendors in South Carolina and is environmentally friendly.

“It’s a renewable, sustainable resource,” said Katharine.
