The Wellington Square Bookshop in Eagleview – Chester County’s premier independent bookstore where patrons can feel the literary magic in the air – will celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 28 with a slate of family friendly activities and secret sales.

Launched in 2014 and sponsored by the American Booksellers Association, Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. In addition to all the fun, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day.

The Wellington Square Bookshop began with owner Sam Hankin’s personal collection. Today, it has grown to thousands of books beautifully displayed on distinctive wooden bookshelves. Wellington Square is a community-oriented bookshop featuring new, used, and rare finds.

The day of fun, which includes raffles and balloons all day, will follow this schedule:

• 9 AM: Opening
• 10 AM: Story Time with Mr. Mike
• 11 AM-2 PM: Face Paining
• 2-2:30 PM: Kids Yoga
• 5-6:30 PM: Wine, Hors D’oeuvres, Secret Sales, and More

Indie bookstores are not just stores. In a world of tweets and algorithms and digital downloads, they are tangible community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. “We offer what Amazon can’t: the touch, the feel, the look,” said Leslie Finkel, Wellington Square Bookshop’s manager and event coordinator. “We’re not virtual. We offer you the opportunity to bring your kids into a children’s section with books that no one else has. We have a café, weekly story time, monthly book or writing clubs, author events, community events, and more.”
