QuantaVerse, a fintech company based in Wayne, is the subject of a new documentary by The Economist that showcases the ways banks can help stop human trafficking, writes Roberto Torres for Technical.ly Philly.

Founded in 2014, QuantaVerse combines data science and artificial intelligence to track and identify transactions by suspicious users, including human traffickers.

The documentary highlights one case where the company received an e-mail from Liberty Asia.

“They sent us info about bad guys that they had found,” said CIO Phil McLaughlin.

Founder and CEO Dave McLaughlin, an expert in the financial services industry and a Navy veteran, detailed the next steps in the process.

“And so now, the names of those individuals are in our database,” he said. “Anytime there’s a transaction in the future, regardless of where it comes from, we’re scanning against the database we’ve been collecting.”

This means that if they ever do a transaction at financial services organizations, “we’re going to know if it’s a client of ours, and we’re going to see it and understand that those people are engaged in human trafficking.”
