Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson will once again fall in love on big screens across the country, as Grease, the world-famous musical that was inspired by Radnor High School, is returning to theaters for its 40th anniversary, writes Nick Vadala for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The movie was originally released four decades ago on June 16, and quickly became popular across the globe. It includes timeless hits like “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want.”

While the movie is set at fictional Rydell High School, its inspiration came from Radnor High School, the alma mater of the film’s director, Randal Kleiser.

“The school colors are the same as Rydell’s,” he said. “The original musical was an urban musical, set in the city.”

The movie’s drive-in scene was also inspired by neighboring Devon.

“That was based on the Main Line Drive-In, where there were little swings below the screen where kids would go and play before the sun went down,” said Kleiser.

The film is being shown in selected theaters.
