Chester County Controller’s Office Contracts with Outside Auditors to Save Taxpayer Funds

The Chester County Controller’s Office has started contracting outside auditors to perform financial reviews of the county courts and row offices to save taxpayer funds and free up staff to focus on other projects, writes Michael Rellahan for the Daily Local News.

Controller Margaret Reif, who took over at the start of the year, said that auditors with the firm Zelenkofske Axelrod worked with her staff last week to review district courts’ financial records. The firm already has a contract with the county, and it was expanded to add the new services.

Reif made the decision after a member of her staff left earlier this year. Instead of replacing that person, she realized that using an outside auditor would save nearly $30,000 this year, and around $10,000 a year going forward.

This move also allows the staff auditors to review the systems in place at other offices and departments.

“It’s just a new set of eyes looking at how things work,” said Reif.
