Bournelyf Special Camp (pronounced “born-a-leaf”) is located just down the road from West Chester University on South New Street, on the beautiful grounds of the Church of the Loving Shepard.

The camp has operated for 38 years as a summer day camp with programs involving recreational, physical fitness, and lifetime wellness in conjunction with developing communication and social skills for individuals with mild to moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Programs are offered to individuals from ages 8 to 108, and Executive Director Anne Catlin is very proud to say that no camper will ever “age out” of Bournelyf.

Catlin has worked at Bournelyf since she was 13, and has served as Executive Director for the past 10 years. She works tirelessly with the board, volunteers, staff, donors, and families from her home in Texas throughout the year.

Conversely, when the summer programs begin, she moves her family back to Pennsylvania to be on site with the campers, whom she all knows personally.

“Anne and her husband and two boys not only give up their summers to be with the campers, they make many personal and financial sacrifices,” said Tim Greim, the President of Bournelyf’s Board of Directors. “Anne is the glue and the inspiration for the camp’s success and growth.”

Bournelyf has positions available for male counselors and a lifeguard, as well as open slots for campers to enroll.
