The home and art studio of Chester County sculptor James Fuhrman is for sale, writes Shannon Rooney for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Glenmore property is the former site of the one-room Lincoln School, which dates back to 1867. It was converted to a residence in 1962. Fuhrman bought the property in 1973.

“I was never happy living in an apartment,” Fuhrman said. “I lived in 27 different places before I was 30. And then I moved here, and I haven’t moved since.”

When he bought the property, Fuhrman said he knew he could make the former one-room schoolhouse into a home and studio space that would work for him.

During his 45-year residence, Fuhrman has gotten married and done extensive remodeling. He added 3,000 square feet of living space, including a sunroom and office, a garage, and his studio and workshop.

Fuhrman said he and his wife decided recently to sell the home.

“It’s time for someone else to have the house,” he said. “It’s time for transition.”

The home sits on 3.7 acres in a semi-rural area. The property adjoins a 30-acre natural preserve.
