The Eagles’ Super Bowl victory could be the catalyst to help Philadelphians get the confidence to change the negative perception of the city, writes Craig Ey for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Ey, who moved to Philadelphia years ago from the South, recalled the way people reacted when he was still only considering relocation.

“I was barraged by people who’ve never been to Philadelphia telling me how rude, rough, and gruff people from Philadelphia are,” he wrote in a recent column.

However, once he arrived to the city, he found the exact opposite. In fact, he received a warm welcome from nearly everybody, including a young man in dreadlocks who helped him and his wife navigate the subway.

Ey quickly realized that Philadelphia does not deserve its negative reputation. However, he said that Philadelphians can be too quiet and too reluctant to fight the status quo. He believes that the city needs a burst of confidence, and the Eagles’ victory could provide it.

“The best way to turn our reputation around is to show supreme confidence in ourselves,” wrote Ey.
