From DELCO: After-School Child Care in Haverford Township a Divisive Issue
Despite some detractors who say that parents in Haverford Township who struggle to find after-school child care are entitled, some progress has been made to rectify the situation, writes Maria Panaritis for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The problem is that approximately 100 kids have been denied child-care slots at elementary schools in Haverford Township. This has panicked parents who pay thousands of dollars in before- and after-school care.
Their attempts to get help from the agency that runs the program and school district officials have also been unsuccessful.

However, after the original Inquirer article, officials at the Haverford school board meeting shared some potentially encouraging news. They said that, while the district has no legal obligation to supply child care, they can still assemble resources not available to parents.
“The board chairman said that because of the article, he has had six different agencies contact him about potential after-care solutions,” said one of the parents involved, biologist Samantha Soldan. “I’m optimistic that they’ve been pushed into confronting the issue.”
