The National Breast Cancer Foundation recently received a $50,000 donation from Collegeville-based Allied Wire & Cable, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.

State Sen. Bob Mensch and representatives from the foundation recently joined more than 100 Allied employees at the company’s headquarters for the check presentation.

Out of the total $50,000, $42,000 came from Charity Week, a week-long fundraiser in December. An additional $5,000 came from the company’s pledge to the foundation, and the final $3,000 was donated by Dan Flynn, Allied Wire & Cable’s co-founder.

According to CEO Tim Flynn, the company’s breast cancer awareness campaign began when Allied noticed that other companies used colored reels, while Allied still used black. They started looking at available colors, and pink was one of them.

“We were already planning to do something with breast cancer awareness, so we thought why not tie the color to the charity,” he said.

The fundraiser was held from Dec. 11-15 and really resonated with customers.

“Many had been touched by breast cancer and thanked us for doing this,” said Tim Flynn.
