The Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a discussion on the landscape of digital marketing that featured a panel of three experts from regional digital marketing agencies.

“The best way for a small business, or any business for that matter, to do it is to start off by mastering one (social media channel),” said Marty McDonald, the CEO of Bad Rhino, a full-service social media marketing agency based in West Chester.

“When people spread their efforts too thinly across a variety of channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.), they often don’t get the response they’re looking for.

“Focus your energy on one media channel, and you’ll start to see a return.”

Aliya Hammond of Aliya Hammond Consulting moderated the event. The panel also included Paula Rhoads, the founder of Rhoads Creative who has spent 21 years as a digital strategist to deliver the critical edge her clients need to increase sales and outperform their competition. Kymberly Robinson, an award-winning graphic designer, strategic marketer and CEO at Stratus Interactive, also offered her insight on the industry.

“It’s so important that you understand who you’re trying to communicate with or sell to,” said Kymberly Robinson of Stratus Interactive. “There’s so much noise out on the Internet that it’s no longer about just spending money and putting up generic posts. Use your critical thinking, your brainpower as the subject expert at your company to figure out the buyer persona, the human you’re trying to sell to.”

The landscape of digital marketing is quickly evolving, and it’s imperative for businesses to keep up with the changes. GWCC offers an array of professional development programs through its Education Series: Business Owners in the Know.
