Malvern native and Radnor High School alum Harry Hiestand has returned to the Chicago Bears for a second tour of duty as the team’s offensive line coach, writes Larry Mayer for the Chicago Bears.

The well-respected veteran is considered to be one of the best assistant coaches in football. Hiestand is the first hire made by new Bears coach Matt Nagy, who graduated from Manheim Central High School in Lancaster County.

Hiestand has spent nearly three decades as an offensive line coach, primarily at the college level. The last six years he has been filling that role at Notre Dame.

He originally served as offensive line coach for the Bears from 2005-09 under head coach Lovie Smith. During that time, they managed to win back-to-back NFC North titles and reach Super Bowl XLI.

In those five seasons, Hiestand played a critical role in sending center Olin Kreutz and guard Ruben Brown to the Pro Bowl.

“I’ve heard a ton of great things about Harry throughout this building,” said Bears general manager Ryan Pace. “I think he’s going to make a big impact.”
