Sweet Jane’s Wish Foundation, a fund of the Chester County Community Foundation, has awarded $2,500 scholarships to Elyse Burch and Victoria Christian, senior tennis players at Downingtown East and West, respectively.
Sweet Jane’s Wish honors the memory of Jane Gerlach Booge, who tragically lost her battle with breast cancer when she was 47. She attended Downingtown High School from 1981-84, and was a member of the girls tennis team. Booge’s quiet confidence and positive attitude propelled her to a number of championship matches, including district and state competitions. She was known off the court for her compassion and friendship to many.
After graduating from Penn State, Booge cared for the children of many families in Chester County as the director of The Chesterbrook Academy in West Chester and Lionville. She later worked as an instructional aide at Uwchlan Hills Elementary School.
