Lisa Thomas-Laury to Speak at Delaware County Press Club’s Holiday Luncheon
The Delaware County Press Club will welcome retired Action News co-anchor and POEMS syndrome survivor Lisa Thomas-Laury to its holiday luncheon at the Radnor Hotel on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Founded in 1979, the Delaware County Press Club comprises professionals, active or retired, from the fields of communications, including print and broadcast journalism, public relations, marketing, writing, and photojournalism, as well as communications teachers and students and professionals in allied fields.
At the Press Club’s December luncheon, Thomas-Laury will discuss her professional and personal journey, as well as her memoir, On Camera and Off: When the News Is Good and When It’s Not.
Thomas-Laury joined 6ABC in February 1978, as a co-anchor and reporter. In 2000, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Holy Family. She was also named Best TV Anchorwoman by the Main Line Times in 2003, the same year she was diagnosed with a rare nerve disorder called POEMS syndrome.
Her illness paralyzed her vocal cord, leaving her unable to project her voice and forcing her to leave work. She underwent a bone marrow transplant in July 2004, and was eventually able to return to her job.
Copies of Thomas-Laury’s book will be available for sale at the event.
Networking begins at 11:30 AM, followed by a buffet lunch at noon. The public is welcome to all Press Club luncheons. The cost for this month’s is $30 for members and non-members, payable by cash or check at the door.
Click here to RSVP for the event by Dec. 18.
