CEO of Malvern’s Saint-Gobain Believes an Open Mind Crucial to Unlocking Full Potential

Tom Kinisky – CEO of Saint-Gobain’s North American arm, headquartered in Malvern – believes that having an open mind is crucial to unlocking your full potential, writes Yitzi Weiner for The Huffington Post.

This is one of five key things that Kinisky wishes he’d been told when he was starting his career. Another key element is the importance of working with a diverse group of people.

“When you’re open to working with people who differ from you, you benefit from different perspectives,” he said.

More recently, Kinisky has learned to actively listen and recognize people’s unconscious bias, especially as a leader in a global company.

“Part of this ties into the fact that different cultures value different attributes, and sometimes corporate culture can conflict with national cultures, and all of this is important in establishing our unconscious bias,” he said.

He also pointed out that it’s important to realize that you do not need to have all the answers as a leader. Instead, you have to know how to draw them out, as not everyone is interested in hearing an alternative point of view.
