ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester and Better Than Bacon are joining forces for “Bacon Gives Back: An Improvised Comedy Event” on Nov. 24.

ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester and Better Than Bacon, an improvisational comedy troupe, are joining forces for “Bacon Gives Back: An Improvised Comedy Event” on Friday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 PM at the Knauer Performing Arts Center in West Chester.

The night of laughs will benefit ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester, an interfaith-based nonprofit organization that seeks to develop relationships with and provide support for its unemployed and underemployed neighbors.

ACT in Faith was established in late 2010 by members of the Religious Council of Greater West Chester in response to the growing number of people reaching out to faith communities for support. There are approximately 40,000 people in Chester County living in or at the cusp of poverty. Many don’t know where to turn, others don’t qualify for support via other social services, and still others have needs that are beyond the scope of existing programs.

Through ACT in Faith, the interfaith communities are working together to help people connect with resources and to provide gap services for their neighbors in need. ACT in Faith’s community partners – Better Than Bacon and Uptown! Entertainment Alliance – are helping it raise awareness of the need that exists in West Chester.

Based in suburban Philadelphia, Better Than Bacon has performed in nearly 150 improv shows throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. In 2017, Better Than Bacon became an official Resident Company of Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center and has performed in five sellout shows there this year.

Better Than Bacon acts in completely unscripted improvisational games, which are all driven by the audience’s suggestions and interactions. Every word, every action is completely made up, on the spot, thus ensuring that no two shows are alike.

Dubbed by many as “the funniest improv group on the planet” and voted “Best of the Main Line and Western Suburbs” by Main Line Today, Better Than Bacon has been entertaining audiences in the region since its formation in 2011. A majority of the troupe’s members originally met at improv comedy classes offered by a local night school for adults.

Dan Stabb is the director of Better Than Bacon, and his performance history spans more than 25 years. One show is all you’ll need to see to want to hire this troupe, which also entertains workplaces and parties. Better Than Bacon even offers workshops that are interactive and fun and a testament to how improv comedy can help you and your co-workers interact more effectively.
