Plein Air Brandywine Valley is a painting and photography competition, show, and sale featuring the beauty of the Brandywine Valley interpreted by the finest artists of our nation and beyond.

For one week, artists will paint and photograph the most scenic properties of the Brandywine Valley, including private estates, land preserves, and renowned duPont properties.

The first pair of events are in West Chester, and are open to the public are:

• On Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 6:30-9:30 PM at Bar Avalon in West Chester: Meet the artists and see the Nocturnes, works of art dealing with evening or night, they have created.
• On Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 4-6 PM at the Marshalton Inn: Watch the artists at work, smell the wet paint, and see their masterpieces come alive. From 6-8 PM, browse the finished pieces and enjoy a drink and appetizer.

All works entered into the competition will be judged and then displayed for viewing and purchase at an opening reception scheduled for Friday, Oct. 20 from 7-10 PM at The Visitor Center of Winterthur Museum and Garden, located in Wilmington, Del.

The works will remain on display at Winterthur for purchase and viewing throughout the remainder of the weekend: Oct. 21-22 from 10 AM-4 PM.

The event is seeking sponsors. A variety of packages are available, each offering benefits as a thank-you for the support.

A portion of the proceeds from the art sales will benefit Children’s Beach House, a Delaware-based nonprofit that fulfills founder Lydia Chichester duPont’s vision to help children with special needs reach their highest potential as functioning members of their families and the communities.
