ClĂnica de Migrantes, a new HBO documentary, follows Dr. Steve Larson and his colleague, Dr. Jack Ludmir, as they provide prenatal care to undocumented immigrants, writes Kiko Martinez for Remezcla.

Larson donates his time to Kennett Square’s migrant population, providing medical care for the borough’s migrant workers once a week.

“I grew up in a very Latino-friendly environment,” said Larson, whose mother is Puerto Rican. “There was a need, and I always wanted to give back to the community.”

Together, Larson and Ludmir started a volunteer-run health clinic, named Puentes de Salud, in South Philadelphia that treats immigrants who are undocumented and uninsured.

The documentary takes an intimate look at the workings of the clinic, and underlines the importance of the work being done by Larson, Ludmir, and the clinic’s staff.

“I wanted the issue of immigration to resonate through the people rather than use interviews to highlight certain ideas about immigration,” said filmmaker Maxim Pozdorovkin.

The documentary is currently available on HBO On Demand, HBO Now, and HBO Go.
