East Fallowfield resident and former Philadelphia Eagles coach Dick Vermeil recently talked to students at Glen Mills Schools as part of its Character & Leadership Development series, writes Kathleen Carey for the Delaware County News Network.

The coach who won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams was a guest at the residential school for troubled youth. He joined an impressive roster of speakers that has included judges, NBA officials, and Vicki Otmani, who once rowed across the Pacific Ocean.

“We’re bringing in people from all different backgrounds to expose our kids so they can learn,” said Randy Ireson, executive director at Glen Mills.

During his talk in front of 600 students, staff, and visitors, Vermeil emphasized that humans tend to complicate things that are rather simple, and that anyone can achieve success.

“Young people that learn to use common sense and pair it with good judgment and a good positive work ethic, they can be very successful,” he said.

Vermeil also pointed out that truthfulness and hard work are crucial in the journey.

“Hard work is a solution, hard work is a problem solver, hard work can be a life saver,” he said.
