The correct legal documentation is the bedrock of any business. For a small business or closely held business, it can mean the difference between security and hidden risk.

Mary Kay Gaver, a partner in MacElree Harvey’s Business Law Department, specializes in guiding small, closely held businesses through the maze of legal documentation. On Thursday, Aug. 17 from 7:45-9:30 AM at The Creamery, she will speak on the topic at Kennett Township’s speaker series designed for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

With more than 20 years of experience to guide her, Gaver’s interactive presentation, entitled “Legal Briefs – Documentation and Protection,” will focus on:

  • what to consider when forming a small business
  • documents that can help business owners protect themselves and their businesses
  • best practices for small businesses
  • the intersection of business and estate planning

“My presentation will be geared to people who have questions about forming their own entity, but I will also discuss what business owners need to consider as their business matures to both protect their interests and maximize its value,” said Gaver. “There will be plenty of time for questions. Our hope is to make the presentation relevant to everyone who attends.”

Licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and Maryland, Gaver regularly counsels businesses on strategic and tactical issues ranging from formation to meeting the daily challenges of business operations. She also advises clients in transition planning, including the drafting and negotiation of buy sell and asset purchase agreements.
