Jessica Capistrant, President and CEO of the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce, recently received the 2017 Extraordinary Woman Award from State Rep. Warren Kampf at his annual women’s luncheon at the Pfizer Conference Center in Collegeville.

Mary Foote, Executive Director of the Association for the Colonial Theatre, and Julie Brufke-Wenger of Phoenix Tax Consultants were also nominated. Other nominees included Lynne Williams, Taylor Caton, Shweta Sivaraman, Melinda Taylor, and Barbara Zimmerman.

The Extraordinary Woman Award recognizes one exceptional woman from the 157th Legislative District who has demonstrated exceptional achievement, personal excellence, or outstanding service.

Chester County Commissioners name Douglas Waegel Director of Chester County Department of Children Youth and Families

Chester County’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families

Douglas Waegel has been appointed by the Chester County Commissioners as the new Director of Chester County’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

Waegel has served as deputy director of the department for nearly nine years, and during this time, he has been responsible for the provision of all public child welfare program services for Chester County residents, including in-home and placement services.

He has also served as part of a leadership team to implement legislative and regulatory changes within the department, and has promoted Chester County’s collaborative System of Care approach to programs and services.

The Board of Karasch & Associates, a West Chester business dedicated to communication services and technologies, has announced the addition of Eric Roberts to the company’s management team. Roberts, a prominent industry professional, will be Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Barclay Friends

Barclay Friends – a not-for-profit, continuing care retirement community in West Chester – has selected Linda Sterthous, long-time leader of Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line (formerly Martins Run), to succeed Carol Hanson in July as Executive Director.

“I am thrilled to join Barclay Friends’ family of residents, staff, and board members,” said Sterthous. “The reputation of the community is stellar, and its commitment to arts and horticulture in resident programming puts it at the forefront of innovation in senior living.”

Sterthous served as CEO of Martins Run in Media from 1998 until its affiliation with Wesley Enhanced Living in 2015, when she became Executive Director there. Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line is a continuing care retirement community on a 22-acre campus with 165 independent living apartments, 30 personal care residences, and 60 skilled nursing accommodations.

Hank’s Place

Hank’s Place, the popular restaurant on Route 1 in Chadds Ford, has announced a change in ownership from Peter and Stravoula Skiadis of Peter & Sons, Inc. to Anthony and Kathryn Young of Blue Door Hospitality Group, LLC.

The Youngs aim to continue operating this landmark restaurant as a pillar of the community with home-style, family tradition. The current business name, cheerful service, cuisine, horticultural landscape, and family character of Hank’s Place will remain.

Anthony and Kathryn Young are longtime patrons of Hank’s Place and bring extensive culinary and marketing experience to the restaurant. Anthony is an award-winning professional chef with more than 25 years of local culinary arts and food service management experience. Kathryn is a highly creative designer and multitalented business owner with experience in marketing strategy, brand management, event management, print, and multimedia plan development.
