WCU Students Rally to Help Beloved Staff Member

By

West Chester University students have rallied to raise money and help a beloved staff member who is currently being treated for a brain aneurysm, writes Grace Harvey for The Quad, the university’s student newspaper.

John Berberich, who works at WCU’s Einstein Bagels, is loved by students for his positive attitude and his rather unique way of taking orders. Even with a constant line of students waiting to be served, Berberich always guesses, remembers, or asks for each person’s name, ensuring that everyone feels special.

Students Darby McKee, Lexi Zink, and Joshua Dandridge have started a crowd-funding project on GoFundMe called “WCU Loves John Project” to gather support for him. The page explains that Berberich was recently diagnosed with a brain aneurysm that can only be treated with a high-risk surgical procedure.

According to the WCU Loves John Project, Berberich is at this time being treated by the Department of Neurosurgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, with the surgery scheduled for the summer.

Since the page was started on Feb. 22, it has already raised more than $15,000, and is hoping to reach a total of $50,000.
