More Than 70 Key Members of Malvern’s Zonoff Join Smart Doorbell Manufacturer in California

Senior management and more than 70 staff members at Malvern’s Zonoff, a home-automation developer, have joined Ring, the California manufacturer of smart doorbells, to become the company’s new Ring Solutions division, writes Joseph DiStefano for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The move came after a $40 million deal to sell the firm fell through, and Ring saw an opportunity to pounce. It enticed Zonoff’s former boss, Mike Harris, along with other senior management and staff, to join Ring.

“We are really lucky to now be able to work with Mike Harris, Mike Balog, and some other really talented Pennsylvanians,” said Jamie Siminoff, Chief Inventor and Founder of Ring.

Zonoff was on an upward trajectory just two years ago before it ran into issues with one of its largest strategic investors, ADT. The trouble began after ADT was sold last year to Apollo Global Management, which is more focused on security than smart homes.

Zonoff opened its 35,000-square-foot headquarters in Malvern just two years ago, but now the team has to move. According to Siminoff, Ring is looking for a new permanent location in Chester County. He declined to comment on the current status of Zonoff.
