Fueled by Thriving Economy, Chester County Experienced Housing Boom Last Year

By

Last year, Chester County families opened lots of new doors, and many of them led to new apartments.

A thriving local economy contributed to a 94 percent jump in new apartment construction proposals, totaling 2,231 in 2016, as well as a 33 percent increase to 3,000 new multifamily housing proposals, according to the Chester County Planning Commission.

“The county has seen an extensive number of apartments in our growth areas, particularly in our employment centers and older towns,” said Executive Director Brian O’Leary. “This trend supports the goals and vision of Landscapes2.”

Landscapes2 is Chester County’s policy map for balanced growth and open space preservation, and the housing boom is a key component to keeping it as a sought-after place to live, work, travel, and play.

In the crosshairs for the housing growth have been the townships of East Whiteland, West Whiteland, East Brandywine, Upper Uwchlan, East Vincent, Kennett, and West Goshen.

The county continues to refine its vision for future housing, and development of Landscapes3 is now under way.
