Sravya Alla, 17, and Prithvi Parthasarathy, 12, from Exton have been recognized for their unwavering dedication to helping others as Distinguished Finalists of the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for Pennsylvania.

The awards are part of a nationwide program that honors young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. Along with six other finalists, Alla and Parthasarathy were recognized by the program’s judges for their impressive community service activities.

Alla, a senior at Great Valley High School, has managed to raise more than $10,000 to help people in her native India. She then worked with a nonprofit organization to help direct the funds to a variety of projects.

Parthasarathy, a seventh-grader at Great Valley Middle School, has worked with the Literacy Empowerment Foundation to help package, stamp, and ship books for children in need. He has also helped out with the Diwali food drive and serves as a junior counselor with the Great Valley Nature Center.

“Prudential is honored to recognize these young volunteers for their exemplary service,” said Prudential Chairman and CEO John Strangfeld. ”We hope that their stories inspire others to consider how they, too, can volunteer their time and talents to improve their communities.”
