WCU-2c_logo-CMYK_outlinesSeveral student organizations from West Chester University rolled up their sleeves and answered a last minute call for help from a historic church nearby, writes Kelby Hershey for The Quad, the university’s student newspaper.

WCU’s Student Veterans Group, Men’s Rugby Club, and fraternities FIJI and Sigma Phi Epsilon rallied volunteers from their ranks to help clean up the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church and cemetery just outside Malvern.

The majority of the work was done by a Local Boy Scout Troop that had been working on the project for weeks. However, when it was obvious that there was still a lot left to be done before the opening ceremony on Nov. 19, WCU’s Student Veteran Group offered to help.

More than 50 students from the aforementioned organizations answered the call. On Nov. 12, they came to the site, where they cleaned the gravesites for close to four hours, including raking, trimming, and seeding plots with new grass.
