logoChester County farmers have been counting up mushrooms all year long, but on New Year’s Eve, Kennett Square will be the place to count them down.

The fourth annual Mushroom Drop has become one of about 15 featured New Year’s drops in Pennsylvania, and the countdown to 2017 will feature a 700-pound stainless steel mushroom at the center of the Mushroom Capital of the World, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

“There’s no better place to pursue your happiness than in Pennsylvania — especially on New Year’s Eve,” said Carrie Fischer, the state’s Deputy Secretary of the Office of Marketing, Tourism, and Film. “We encourage all happy travelers to celebrate Dec. 31 in style at some of the best places to ring in 2017.”

The Mushroom Drop is part of Kennett’s Midnight in the Square.
