If the current plans go through, the Kennett Public Library could soon be moving into a new and improved location that would also house the borough’s offices and police, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The proposed building will cost $10 million and would be constructed on a lot east of the current library building. The complex would cover 45,000 square feet with a 47-space underground garage, three elevators, lots of natural light, and flexible meeting spaces.

According to preliminary plans, it would be finished in 2019.

These findings are a result of a community visioning study that was approved earlier this year. This gave the Kennett Library Board of Trustees the green light to determine the feasibility and cost of combining the library into one building with police and borough administration.

“We want this to be a welcome building for the community. This is all very exciting, but very, very preliminary,” said Jeff Yetter, who serves on the library’s board.
