ArcelorMittal, the steel manufacturer in Coatesville, recognized and celebrated November as National U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier Month.

The celebration honors the value, accomplishments, and contributions of aircraft carriers, as well as the men and women serving aboard. November was chosen, as it is filled with historic moments from the development of naval aviation and aircraft carriers. These include the first launch of an aircraft from the deck of a U.S. Navy ship in 1910 and the first deployment of an operational aircraft carrier by the U.S. Navy in 1924.

ArcelorMittal and its legacy companies have provided plates for every carrier built in the U.S. These include the older-design Nimitz class carriers such as the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush and the new Ford class design such as the USS Gerald R. Ford.

It manufactures the plates at its Burns Harbor, Coatesville, and Conshohocken mills.

“As the sole domestic builder of nuclear-powered aircraft carries, Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding division purchases over 90 percent of their plate requirements from ArcelorMittal,” said Matt Habenicht, plate sales manager, sales and marketing, at ArcelorMittal.
