A historic Westtown farmstead and 190 acres of rolling hills would be preserved amid a new housing development project by Toll Brothers, if local officials provide the go-ahead.

Development looks to finally be realized at Crebilly Farm, the township’s “iconic centerpiece.” And Toll Brothers recently turned its ear to local residents as it sifts through three different options for moving ahead on the 322-acre property, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Michaelle Bond.

“We’re here to listen to suggestions to make this project better,” Division President Andrew Semon said.

Toll Brothers intentionally shifted plans to the property’s east side, and aims to reuse the farm’s barn and stable to preserve its historical significance, being so close to the Brandywine Battlefield. Meanwhile, 190 acres would remain as open space, and the rest would become 319 to 397 single-family homes and townhouses, depending on which development route is taken.

Despite those accommodations, the project has still drawn concern from residents, who are circulating an online petition against any development at Crebilly Farm.

The project still awaits a planning commission recommendation early next year, followed by a decision of the township board.
