penn-state-equine-farm-logo-5a9ab02a0d89d583Thanks to efforts by its owners, Jason and Constance Mesiarik, Four Sisters Farm in East Nantmeal has been recognized as an Environmentally Friendly Farm by the Pennsylvania State University Extension Equine Team, according to a staff report from NJ.com.

The Mesiariks decided to leave suburbia and focus on their dream of sustainable farming three years ago. Since then, they have adopted and maintained environmental stewardship practices to benefit not only their animals, but also the environment and community.

The idea took root two decades ago, when the couple started dreaming of a place where they could grow food from farm to table, while their four daughters rode ponies. In order to follow this dream, the couple needed to find a suitable property that they could operate as an integrated farm.

Once they found the 10-acre horse farm near Horseshoe Trail in East Nantmeal, there was no going back. The pair’s children renamed the property the Four Sisters Farm, which today has barns that house Mediterranean miniature donkeys, ponies, and pastured poultry, as well as gardens that produce vibrant heirloom vegetables.
