On Friday, Nov. 11 from 8-10 AM at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern, the Coatesville Youth Initiative will host a thought-provoking and inspiring conversation featuring Dr. Manuel Pastor, Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Pastor’s research has generally focused on issues of the economic, environmental, and social conditions facing low-income urban communities – and the social movements seeking to change those realities. His recent book Equity, Growth, and Community: What the Nation Can Learn from America’s Metro Areas, co-authored with Chris Benner, argues how inequality stunts economic growth and how bringing together equity and growth requires concerted local action.

“Dr. Pastor’s remarks received a standing ovation at the Philanthropy Network’s 2015 conference in Philadelphia, and we are thrilled to bring him back to our region,” said Chaya Scott, CYI Executive Director. “In addition to being a nationally recognized leader on the study of the changing demography of our country and an accomplished author, Dr. Pastor is also a highly entertaining presenter. This breakfast is for community leaders and key decision makers who want to ensure their organizations and businesses are positioned for the future.”

The following day, from 9 AM-2 PM on Saturday, Nov. 12, the Coatesville Area High School Campus will host the Coatesville Youth Conference for 300 Chester County students in grades 6-12. Attendance is free.
