The final Department of Agriculture’s farmers market for the season in Washington, D.C., recently put the spotlight on mushrooms, with producers from Chester County on-hand to showcase the nation’s most productive mushroom region, writes Doug Ohlemeier for The Packer.

Kennett Square’s R.L. Irwin Mushroom and Phillips Mushroom Farms provided more than 40 pounds of mushrooms that were used to prepare a mushroom paella served by a local chef at the VegUcation tent, which was showcasing mushrooms this year.

Visitors were also kept entertained with fun mushroom facts, as well as picking and storing advice, from Louise D’Amico, co-owner of Avondale’s To-Jo Mushrooms, and marketing director Peter Wilder.
