wcccc-logoThe Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce has announced that Citadel has been selected as the recipient of the Joseph G. Filoromo Jr. Community Service Award.

The award, which has been presented annually since 1979, is given to an individual, business, or community organization that has demonstrated significant community service, as characterized by Filoromo.

The award will be presented at the WCCCC’s Annual Dinner, also a celebration of its 100th anniversary, on Nov. 17 at the Coatesville Country Club.

Citadel was established in 1937 as the Credit Union for Lukens Steel. Today, it has more than 200,000 members and $2.6 billion in assets across 23 Branches, which span Chester, Delaware, Bucks, Montgomery, Lancaster, and Philadelphia counties.

Citadel’s commitment to the communities it serves is evident by its company-wide involvement in various community organizations throughout each branch’s market area.

“Having the luxury of a business community rich in history and a membership varying in size from large companies to small sole operators, our Chamber has witnessed companies successfully growing and thriving within our region for years,” said John H. Lymberis, the WCCCC President.

“This year, we celebrate our 100th year, and are pleased to have selected such an impactful company to recognize with our Filoromo Community Service Award. Citadel, with its original roots here in Western Chester County, has seen its business substantially expand.”

The WCCCC was formed in 1916 as the Coatesville Chamber of Commerce, and is one of the oldest chambers of commerce in Chester County. It became the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce in 1975, and it currently has more than 300 members and serves 20 municipal areas in the county’s dynamic and growing western region.

“I encourage everyone to attend our magnificent event on Nov. 17, and join us in honoring Citadel,” Lymberis said. “Jeff March and the leadership at Citadel clearly make an effort to make contributions to local organizations, and have continued doing so during their growth.

“Not only do they offer financial support, but their management and employees invest personal time volunteering on several boards as well. This makes a definitive impact on countless community organizations across Chester County.”
