Movie Idea Staged in Exton Mall Gets New Life as TV Series

Business Briefs
Film director Kevin Smith had planned to film a sequel to his cult classic, Mallrats, at Exton Mall.

Motion picture cameras may still roll inside the Exton Square Mall someday soon now that a Mallrats sequel of sorts is lurking around the corner.

While the concept for an official sequel movie set in the Exton Mall was tossed out by Universal Studios in June, writer-director Kevin Smith is now trying to sell it as a TV series to services like Showtime, Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, according to a Den of Geek! report by Joseph Baxter.

The original Mallrats movie debuted in 1995 and became “a comedy classic.”

The TV series is proposed to be 10 episodes in partnership with Universal Television.

“We are thrilled at the prospect of hosting Kevin Smith, the actors and crew, helping to bring jobs to the area and creating social media and onsite events to celebrate the partnership,” Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, which owns the mall, announced last year when news of the then-sequel was first disclosed.
