Presenting ‘what’s so cool about manufacturing’is the challenge for students from eight Chester County school districts competing in a state-wide video contest, writes Nancy March for Daily Local News.

The annual themed contest is part of the national DreamItDoIt educational initiative in honor of Manufacturing Day. It pairs teams of students wielding GoPro cameras with local manufacturing partners to produce videos about their manufacturing techniques.

whats-so-cool“They’re learning about the wide range of careers available in manufacturing today, right here in Chester County,” said Alan Slobojan, project consultant for Chester County Economic Development Council and the Manufacturing Alliance of Chester and Delaware Counties.

The goal is to get eighth-grade students excited about job opportunities in technical, engineering and other manufacturing related fields before they choose their courses for high school.

They also get the opportunity to participate in a new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math (STEAM) introductory course with the entire class participating in writing and editing the video.

“Manufacturing is an important part of the vibrant economy in Chester County and there is a growing need for highly skilled workers,” said Slobojan.
