West Chester University Scores Highest of Chesco Colleges on Money’s Ranking

West Chester University did well on Money’s ranking of 2,000 four-year colleges and universities across the country, including three in Chester County. Money’s ranking helps high school students and their parents determine which US colleges and university provide the most value to their students.

Schools with below average graduation, in financial difficulties or less than 500 enrolled undergraduates were screened out. The remaining 705 colleges were ranked according to 24 factors in three main categories: educational quality; affordability; and alumni success.

Money also assessed how well students with similar economic and academic backgrounds did at each school.

Of the three Chester County schools, West Chester University, with 16,600 students came in at 473. The school recorded enrollment of 12,558, with an average SAT score of 1110. The annual cost for WCU is $27,000, while students receiving aid pay around $20,500 and low-income students just $16,543.

Immaculata University, is at 591. With its most popular undergraduate majors being nursing, exercise science, education, and psychology, the school has a hefty price tag of $53,400 per year. Students who receive aid pay an estimated $33,700, while low-income students average out at $27,185.

University of Valley Forge at 693, ranked lowest of the qualifying Chester County schools. The school costs $33,700 per year with the majority of students receiving aid, for an average cost of around $23,900. Low-income students pay an average of $20,727.

Nearby Aston-based Neumann University came in at 386 on Money’s list. The average SAT score for the school is under 900 and this year’s enrollment was around 2000. While the yearly cost of study comes in at $42,600, 98 percent of students at Neumann get financial aid. This brings the cost down to $25,400 and for low income students to $19,451.
