Coatesville kids designed it and will soon put it to the test, but first, more than 200 community volunteers will converge on Patton Park Oct. 7 to build the city’s new playground.
Organized by KaBOOM! and driven by at least 125 volunteers from PECO, 50 from the City of Coatesville and 25 from the Natural Lands Trust — community members are encouraged to help too — the playground is expected to reach 750 Coatesville children.
“A playground is more than a playground. It’s a brain-expander, friend-maker and muscle-builder,” KaBOOM! stated in announcing the project. “Play is central to a child’s ability to grow into a productive adult. It can transform children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally and socially active.”
The work day will kick off with a ceremony from 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed by construction and a ribbon-cutting around 2:30 or 3 p.m.
