PECO and Allies Energize Coatesville With New Playground

More than 200 volunteers from PECO, Natural Lands Trust and the City of Coatesville will join organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the Coatesville community to build a playground for local children at Patton Park.

Coatesville kids designed it and will soon put it to the test, but first, more than 200 community volunteers will converge on Patton Park Oct. 7 to build the city’s new playground.

Organized by KaBOOM! and driven by at least 125 volunteers from PECO, 50 from the City of Coatesville and 25 from the Natural Lands Trust — community members are encouraged to help too — the playground is expected to reach 750 Coatesville children.

“A playground is more than a playground. It’s a brain-expander, friend-maker and muscle-builder,” KaBOOM! stated in announcing the project. “Play is central to a child’s ability to grow into a productive adult. It can transform children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally and socially active.”

The work day will kick off with a ceremony from 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed by construction and a ribbon-cutting around 2:30 or 3 p.m.
