Jennersville Regional Hospital Kissing New Baby Delivery Goodbye

Jennersville Hospital will close its childbirth center and OB service in November.

Jennersville Regional Hospital is parting with much of its pink and blue this fall thanks to a steady trend that’s brought fewer and fewer Chester County babies into the world in recent years.

Community Health Systems’ West Grove facility will officially close its childbirth center and OB service on Nov. 19, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report by John George.

“We enjoy serving our patients at all stages of their lives and take seriously our responsibility to provide them with high-quality care,” CEO Andy Guz said in the article. “This has been a difficult decision, but we must apply our resources to services that our community needs most in order to continue as a sustainable health care provider in southern Chester County.”

Jennersville Regional has unsuccessfully swam against the current of Philly area OB services; in the last 20 years, it was the only hospital to open up a new OB unit while scores of others closed down. The OB at Jennersville Regional has fallen to an average of only about six births per week.
